As we reflect on Women’s month, we meditate on the Magnificat of Mother Mary The Holy Virgin, wherein she poured out heartfelt praise to God, who had shown favour to her. Because of this great favour, wherein The Lord God chose her to be the bearer of His Only Begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, she declared that throughout the generations, people would call her blessed.
Through elevating her to this high position, God showed the vital contribution of women in world mission. Men and women all have the opportunity to be bearers of God, by following the example of Mary. In the Orthodox Christian tradition, it is said that even the angels pay homage to her.
Her obedience to God, in accepting this grave responsibility, by declaring herself the handmaiden of The Lord, Mary gave us the supreme example of the obedience we should strive to give to God. She lovingly gave herself to God, in loving service to His Will.
As she brought Christ into the world, we too should bring Christ into the world, by following His teachings as the blueprint of our lifestyles.
